Today is our regional tournament. The kids have worked incredibly hard. They programmed right up until last night. We have all the missions going now! (Although a few aren’t as consistent as we would like to see and we struggle to get them done in the 2.5 minutes, usually forcing us to sacrifice about 50 points or so.) I have no idea how they will do today, but I hope they enjoy the day to the max!
Badger: I’m really glad we asked you to join the team. As our youngest rookie you have managed to not only contribute in all the key areas, but you’ve kept us all entertained! I can’t wait to see what wonderful thing the future holds for you.
Butterfly: I’ve enjoyed having you on the team this year and am impressed by all the little extras you contributed to the team. You may be the shortest W.A.F.F.L.E., but you are by no means any less a W.A.F.F.L.E. because of it.
Dragonfly: What can I say? You’re steadfast, dependable, and calm. I see how much you have grown this year. Your programming skills, your teamwork, your dedication, the countless hours……
Jaguar: You’ve really impressed me! (Which by the way isn’t easy to do.) You are a real trooper, always working. You’ve really amazed me in your ability and willingness. You’re a real well rounded team member!
Rock: I knew you’d be an awesome builder, but you have proven yourself to be an awesome program “tweaker” too. Thanks so much for being a “rock” to the team when things go a little hairy. We can always count on you for your positive attitude and fast thinking on the field table.
Snake: I know it’s often hard to have your mom coach your team, so thanks for putting up with me. I see how much you have matured since last year and how your skills have improved as well. Thanks for being the guy I can count on to help me with the technical stuff.
Squirrel: You shine! Thank you for your dedication to the team and your eagerness. I am so thrilled to have had the opportunity to work with you this year. Thanks also for taking the lead in making community contacts and inspiring the others to do the same.
To the parents: Thank you for your support. We honestly couldn’t have done this without you. I know it takes dedication and sacrifice on your part too. Thanks for sticking it out with us. I’m sure there were many times when you were wondering if it was worthwhile, and hope in the end you are able to see what FLL is truly all about. It is so much more than just building, programming and researching.
To my family: Thanks for hanging in there! I promise to try to get some laundry done soon and to get back to normal (whatever that means). To my little ones….thanks for being so good while I’ve focused on the team. I’m looking forward to doing some special things with you real soon. To my husband…..thanks for balancing me out and helping out with the team when you were able to. I love you all!
