For the next couple of weeks we are going to be seeing our team members daily as our coach has arranged for some swimming lessons for us. Every summer we swim in the pool after our robotics meeting, but this year we get to have lessons too.
At first it seems like swimming has little to do with FIRST LEGO league, but surprisingly it does and the other way ’round. We are able to put our our support and cheering skills into practice as we cheer one another on during those difficult endurance swims and while treading water with bricks (the 10lb. kind not the LEGO variety) . Both in the pool and out we have discovered it feels really good to meet a goal and overcome a challenge. We’re also learning a lot about teamwork when we practice the techniques used to do water searches for missing swimmers. We’re hoping that the first aid skills we learn will be something that won’t be needed as a Waffle or a swimmer, but will just be good to know.
